I think when it comes down to any type of violence it should be dealt with and advocated for. Women are very underestimated and viewed as unequal even to this day. In most cases it is women that are sexual assaulted or violated in some shape or form. This is not true in all cases because even some men are but it is more common for a female. When we looked at some of the statistics in class for sexual violence it was something like one in three women have and or will experience some type of sexual violence throughout their lifetime. This is such a sad thing to think about and definitely breaks my heart. The most shocking thing was the fact that most of the time when women experience sexual violence it is from an intimate partner. This is just wrong and more action should be taken when something like this is reported so more women feel comfortable enough to come forward and hopefully make a change. I think one of the main focuses is sexual violence on college campuses. It is estimated that the percentage of completed or attempted rapes against women in higher educational institutions may be between 20-25% over the course of a college career and only 5% of those who experience this actually reports it. I think it is so important that we make a change and advocate for women so that sexual violence won’t happen as much.
